San Felipe de Puerto Plata is the capital of the province of Puerto Plata on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. The city is known for its beaches and the extensive resort area of Playa Dorada, where hotels and an 18-hole golf course are located. Above the old city center, preserved from colonial times, rises Fort San Felipe - a Spanish fortress of the 16th century, which now hosts historical exhibitions, including military ones. The city's population is 330,000 people.
