Chiapas is a state in southern Mexico on the border with Guatemala, covered with mountains and dense tropical forests. On its territory are the ruins of Mayan cities and Spanish colonial cities, including San Cristobal de las Casas. It is worth visiting the baroque church and the former convent of Santo Domingo, which houses a local history museum. Next to it is a market selling colorful woven items. The population of the state is five and a half million people.
