Montreal is the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is located on an island at the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Ottawa rivers and is named after the three-headed Mont Royal, which is located in the city center. The most famous districts of Montreal, many of which were once separate cities, are the bohemian Plateau Mont Royal and the French colonial Old Montreal, with its Neo-Gothic Basilica of Notre Dame de Montreal and cobblestone streets. The population of the city is one million eight hundred thousand people.
