Mexico City is the densely populated mountain capital of Mexico. It gained worldwide fame thanks to the 13th century Aztec Temple of the Templo Major, the Baroque cathedral built by the Spanish conquistadors, and the National Palace, which houses Diego Rivera's frescoes on historical themes. All of these buildings are located around the huge Constitution Square, which is also known as Zocalo. The city's population has reached almost nine million people.
